Calvary Episcopal Church, Rochester's oldest church building, celebrates in 2010 the 150th anniversary of its founding. As part of the sesquicentennial festivities, Calvary has published a new parish history. Frontier Chapel to Spiritual Oasis: 150 Years of Calvary Episcopal Church is now available for purchase.
The high-quality, coffee-table style book tells the story of the parish from its founding in 1860 to the present day. Narrative chapters written by Father Nick Mezacapa and others cover Rochester history and all aspects of parish life, including Calvary's frontier beginnings, chaplaincy at Mayo Clinic, and world-famous fruitcake. Modern printing technology has allowed reproduction of rarely seen pictures of Calvary and Rochester from the 19th century. The book also has a 24-page section of color photographs, including the church's Tiffany stained glass windows and the oasis courtyard, site of the popular summer concert series.
