The "ministry" isn't ordained ministry; EFM is intended to train lay people, who are the primary ministers of the church, to live out the promises made at baptism.
EFM provides the basics of a theological education in order to develop confidence about the ministry we share. The program comes from the extension department of the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.
The four-year program (to which students commit one year at a time) covers the Old and New Testaments, church history, and twentieth-century theology and ethics. The group meets weekly for nine months of the year for 2-1/2 hour seminars led by a trained mentor. Assigned readings completed outside of class provide the grist for discussion. We also devote class time to learning how to reflect theologically on the events of our daily lives. Our class meets each year from September through May. To enroll, contact the church office.
