Spiritual Oasis Project
The Spiritual Oasis Project is a $1.6 million expansion of our landmark 19th-century church, the oldest church building in Rochester. It is making Calvary Episcopal, located across from the Mayo Clinic's new Gonda Building, handicapped accessible and providing for our growth as a spiritual resource for the Rochester community and Mayo Clinic visitors.
Specifically, the Spiritual Oasis Project will:
- Add a third-floor meeting space that eventually will be a resource for the parish and the wider community.
- Remodel the Christian Education and Music areas, including the nursery, to accommodate our growing parish.
- Construct an elevator, new wheelchair ramp, and handicapped-accessible restrooms.
The building project doesn't touch the main, historic portion of our red-brick church. The "Oasis Courtyard," a popular downtown green space and summer concert venue on Calvary's east side, also will remain.
The first two phases of construction - which included remodeling the Christian Education and music areas; adding the handicapped-accessible restroom and wheelchair ramp; and roughing-in the third floor - are complete. Phase 3 involves installing the elevator and finishing the third-floor meeting space. We are currently raising funds and finalizing plans to accomplish this.
Our Investment in Our Future
The Spiritual Oasis is the biggest project undertaken by our generation at Calvary. Our current facility no longer serves the needs of our growing parish or the many visitors drawn to us while seeking treatment at Mayo Clinic. Our investment in the project will help us grow our ministry on our unique corner of the world in many ways.
