Calvary maintains the tradition of special services that so enrich liturgical life.
Advent
At 4:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of Advent, Calvary has either a Service of Lessons and Carols or the "O" Antiphons, led by the children's and adult choirs.
Christmas
On Christmas Eve, Calvary has services at 4:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Each service is preceded by a half hour of special music. Worship is led by the children's choirs at 4:00 and by the Motet Choir at 11:00. Christmas Day worship is at 11:00 a.m.
Epiphany
On Epiphany Sunday, Calvary's children and youth present a pageant at 9:00 and 11:0 in lieu of the homily. The pageant tells the Nativity story from the Annunciation to the arrival of the Magi. Transfiguration Sunday generally includes a special anthem or solo, to punctuate the end of the season of Epiphany.
Lent
Lent at Calvary has as much or more music as other seasons — it's just different. The pipe organ is subdued, with no high pitches or big reeds. Psalms are chanted and anthems sung without accompaniment more often than in other seasons. The emphasis is on the voices of the people rather than the organ. As a result, the services are quiet and meditative.
Holy Week
In this most significant week of the church year, Calvary offers a full range of services:
Pentecost
Pentecost Sunday includes enhanced music, and a reading of the Gospel in multiple languages. Holy Cross Day (Calvary's titular feast), All Saint's Day, and Christ the King Sunday (the last Sunday before Advent) also call for special music.
