Worship is the spiritual center of Calvary Episcopal Church. As a spiritual oasis in the heart of Rochester, we make a special effort to welcome all newcomers and visitors to our services. Our location gives us a unique, healing responsibility to offer peace and hope to people from all over the world, as well as those who call Rochester home.
As a congregation, we strive to balance our historic traditions with the ongoing gifts of the people and the needs of the community. The warmth of our building’s brick-and-beam architecture reflects our Episcopal tradition; our dynamic parish family keeps our parish alive in the Holy Spirit. Members of the congregation play an active role assisting in worship.
We offer choice in worship style. Our 8:00 Sunday morning service is a Rite I spoken Eucharist, with traditional language and a quiet, meditative atmosphere. Music and more contemporary language are part of Rite II worship every Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00 (10:00 in summer). At Calvary, all baptized Christians are welcome to participate in Holy Communion. Special services highlight the liturgical year.
Calvary also offers a healing service every Monday evening, which visitors to Rochester are invited and encouraged to attend; and a midweek spoken Holy Eucharist at noon on Wednesday.
Children of any age are welcome to attend worship services at Calvary. Pew activity packets and illustrated communion booklets are available. We encourage children to participate in Communion during worship. Read more about children at Calvary.
