SUMMARY:Bible Study on the Gospel according to Luke
DESCRIPTION:Mondays from September 18 to November 21\, online at 7:00 pm \nAll are invited to a study of the Gospel according to Luke that will be led by a group of Calvary laypeople and clergy. We will be joining in with many others in the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota in this study\, invited by Bishop Loya\, who sees great value in such a communal experiment and experience. The entire series will be on Zoom so that everyone who is interested can take part. Facilitators will be using the “Interpretation Bible Studies” on Luke by Thomas W. Walker. Participants may purchase this resource if they wish\, but the most important thing is to participate\, and if possible\, bring a Bible (any edition) to the study. \nInterested? Please email Rev. DESCRIPTION:It is an interesting and exciting time to live in Rochester\, Minnesota\, and to belong to the beloved faith community at Calvary. Our next door neighbor\, the Mayo Clinic\, is in the mid-life planning stages of a massive expansion in order to provide the very best\, world-class medical care possible to so many who come seeking hope and healing from incredibly gifted care teams\, clinicians\, and researchers. As you know\, people come from all over the world to\, as my Chicago grandmother called it in the mid-1900’s\, “The Mayos.”\n\nPlease come to Crawford Hall this Sunday\, September 24\, at 9:15 to hear what is happening\, as much as your vestry\, wardens and rector know\, about the Mayo plans and what we are doing in response to those plans at Calvary right now. Bring open ears\, open hearts\, and open minds\, your questions and your comments.  Together\, over the next months\, we will discern God’s call to us in this beautiful and historic church\, and explore how God is calling us into the work of our future. Please join in! We will try to provide a Zoom link for those who would like to attend in that way. That information will be provided in an email blast on Friday\, September 22.

SUMMARY:Benedictine Way
DESCRIPTION:While living in Rome during troubled times in the 6th century\, Benedict of Nursia wrote a Rule for community living. He sought peace\, meaning and purpose for his life. Others joined him and ultimately he founded 12 monastic communities. Benedictine spirituality flows from three vows: stability\, obedience\, and conversion of life\, all grounded in the Bible/Gospels\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, personal prayer\, and community living. \nBenedictine spirituality has been a part of Anglican/Episcopal liturgies for centuries. St. Augustine\, the first Archbishop of Canterbury\, was a Benedictine monk. Thomas Cranmer\, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1533\, incorporated the divine office (morning prayer\, evening prayer and compline along with the Psalms) into the Book of Common Prayer\, following the influence of Augustine. \nThe Benedictine Way Group is an opportunity for people to come together to discover guided balance in our lives through prayer (Evening Prayer and Compline)\, study (of the Bible/Gospels and the Rule)\, and community gathering. The group formed in 2007 and has met monthly with 9-12 members. We listen\, share\, and integrate aspects of the Benedictine monastic tradition into our daily lives to better live out the Gospel in today’s challenging world. \nJoin us on the fourth Sunday of every month in the Larson Fireside Room from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All are welcome!
