SUMMARY:Acts of the Apostles Study
DESCRIPTION:What came after Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances to his disciples? What happened to those disciples\, and how did we evolve from a small band of Jews following Jesus to being called Christians? You are invited to a study of the Acts of the Apostles – a book of the Bible that we read in worship throughout the Great Fifty Days of Easter\, but don’t really spend much time with. As St. Luke’s “second chapter” after his gospel account of Jesus’ life\, the story of the Acts of the Apostles is the natural study to follow our study of the Gospel according to Luke that we did last fall. SUMMARY:Benedictine Way
DESCRIPTION:While living in Rome during troubled times in the 6th century\, Benedict of Nursia wrote a Rule for community living. He sought peace\, meaning and purpose for his life. Others joined him and ultimately he founded 12 monastic communities. Benedictine spirituality flows from three vows: stability\, obedience\, and conversion of life\, all grounded in the Bible/Gospels\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, personal prayer\, and community living. \nBenedictine spirituality has been a part of Anglican/Episcopal liturgies for centuries. St. Augustine\, the first Archbishop of Canterbury\, was a Benedictine monk. Thomas Cranmer\, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1533\, incorporated the divine office (morning prayer\, evening prayer and compline along with the Psalms) into the Book of Common Prayer\, following the influence of Augustine. \nThe Benedictine Way Group is an opportunity for people to come together to discover guided balance in our lives through prayer (Evening Prayer and Compline)\, study (of the Bible/Gospels and the Rule)\, and community gathering. The group formed in 2007 and has met monthly with 9-12 members. We listen\, share\, and integrate aspects of the Benedictine monastic tradition into our daily lives to better live out the Gospel in today’s challenging world. \nJoin us on the fourth Sunday of every month in the Larson Fireside Room from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All are welcome!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the fall Garden Cleanup Challenge/Chalk-the-Walk with messages of hope for Mayo employees and patients! Come meet at the church to do fall cleanup of the beautiful garden that has been lovingly maintained all summer! Once that is finished take a break\, have a snack\, and then take a minute to explore your artistic side to write creative messages of hope to Mayo staff and patients on the sidewalk beside the church that faces Mayo. Let’s put some love out into our community – all hands that are able to work are welcome!
