DESCRIPTION:All are invited to participate in the Annual Meeting of Calvary. \nThe meeting will be incorporated into our worship service that day – we will have one service beginning at 9:30 am in Brackenridge Hall. The usual worship schedule of 8:30 and 10:30 am will be suspended on this day only\, returning to our normal schedule on February 4. \nAll members aged 16 and over are invited to vote on issues\, including our new vestry member slate and the acceptance of the 2024 budget. Children will be gathering in the Sunday school rooms for snacks\, games and fun! \nAll are not only invited – all are needed to attend this critical meeting as we move forward with our neighbors at the Mayo Clinic in their new expansion project\, take an honest look at our finances\, elect new vestry members\, celebrate those members who are retiring\, and celebrate our deep and rich people resources and leaders. \nCoffee and snacks will be provided\, and the vestry will stay following the service to answer questions and receive comments. You don’t want to miss this meeting! It will be livestreamed as well.

It is part of the Triduum\, or three holy days before Easter. It comes from the Latin mandatum novum\, “new commandment\,” from Jn 13:34. The ceremony of washing feet was also referred to as “the Maundy.” Maundy Thursday celebrations also commemorate the institution of the eucharist by Jesus “on the night he was betrayed.” Egeria\, a fourth-century pilgrim to Jerusalem\, describes elaborate celebrations and observances in that city on Maundy Thursday. Special celebration of the institution of the eucharist on Maundy Thursday is attested by the Council of Hippo in 381. There is provision for the consecration of the bread and wine for administering Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament on Good Friday. Following this\, the altar is stripped and all decorative furnishings are removed from the church.

DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm\nEaster Vigil and first Eucharist of Easter\n\nJoin us for the Agape potluck meal following the service.\n\n\n\n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe liturgy intended as the first (and arguably\, the primary) celebration of Easter in the BCP (pp. 284-95). It is also known as the Great Vigil. The service begins in darkness\, sometime between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter\, and consists of four parts: The Service of Light (kindling of new fire\, lighting the Paschal candle\, the Exsultet); The Service of Lessons (readings from the Hebrew Scriptures interspersed with psalms\, canticles\, and prayers); Christian Initiation (Holy Baptism) or the Renewal of Baptismal Vows; and the Eucharist. Through this liturgy\, the BCP recovers an ancient practice of keeping the Easter feast. Believers would gather in the hours of darkness ending at dawn on Easter to hear scripture and offer prayer. This night-long service of prayerful watching anticipated the baptisms that would come at first light and the Easter Eucharist. Easter was the primary baptismal occasion for the early church to the practical exclusion of all others. This practice linked the meanings of Christ’s dying and rising to the understanding of baptism.

SUMMARY:Acts of the Apostles Study
DESCRIPTION:What came after Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances to his disciples? What happened to those disciples\, and how did we evolve from a small band of Jews following Jesus to being called Christians? You are invited to a study of the Acts of the Apostles – a book of the Bible that we read in worship throughout the Great Fifty Days of Easter\, but don’t really spend much time with. As St. Luke’s “second chapter” after his gospel account of Jesus’ life\, the story of the Acts of the Apostles is the natural study to follow our study of the Gospel according to Luke that we did last fall. Bishop Loya has invited all of us in the Episcopal Church in Minnesota to study Acts during this Eastertide.\n\nWe will begin on Monday\, April 15\, and meet together\, all on Zoom\, every Monday through May 20 from 6:30pm to 7:45-ish.  Two resources are recommended: Acts (Interpretation Bible Studies)\, by Charles C. Williamson and Acts from Scratch\, by Donald L. Griggs and Paul W. Waleskey. We will also use our Bibles!\n\nIf you are interested in this study\, please email Rev. SUMMARY:Parish Meeting
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a parish meeting from 9:30 to 10:15 am on Sunday\, May 12\, in Crawford Hall. This will give everyone time to grab a cup of coffee and a doughnut and head upstairs for an update on the parking plan during the initial stages of the Mayo Expansion project\, as well as a few other updates from the “Nuts and Bolts” Team of the Calvary response. The meeting will not be livestreamed.

SUMMARY:Oasis Garden Planting
DESCRIPTION:The Oasis Garden planting is a long-standing tradition at Calvary. Each spring\, parishioners of all ages gather to plant and mulch the hundreds of flowers that help make our churchyard a welcoming oasis for our congregation\, for Mayo patients & staff\, and for all in the community.\n\nThis year\, we’ll plant from 9:00 am to noon on Saturday\, May 18. No gardening skill is necessary\, and the needed tools will be available.  Plant a few flowers or spend the whole morning – all contributions of your time are welcome.\n\nQuestions?
