Dogs\, cats\, rabbits\, goldfish\, snakes\, hamsters\, rodents of ALL kinds! Elephants\, horses\, sloths\, parakeets and every bird\, hissing cockroaches\, tarantulas\, and every insect of every kind. God has made all of creation\, and given it into our care. So\, humans are invited too! \nPlease bring your pets (and pictures of shy pets and pets who have died)\, to the Oasis Garden on Sunday\, October 8 at 4:00 pm for their blessing. All of our collection at that service will be designated to Paws and Claws. This is a great service to bring your neighbors and friends – come let us celebrate God’s Beloved Community!

SUMMARY:Benedictine Way
DESCRIPTION:While living in Rome during troubled times in the 6th century\, Benedict of Nursia wrote a Rule for community living. He sought peace\, meaning and purpose for his life. Others joined him and ultimately he founded 12 monastic communities. Benedictine spirituality flows from three vows: stability\, obedience\, and conversion of life\, all grounded in the Bible/Gospels\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, personal prayer\, and community living. \nBenedictine spirituality has been a part of Anglican/Episcopal liturgies for centuries. St. Augustine\, the first Archbishop of Canterbury\, was a Benedictine monk. Thomas Cranmer\, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1533\, incorporated the divine office (morning prayer\, evening prayer and compline along with the Psalms) into the Book of Common Prayer\, following the influence of Augustine. \nThe Benedictine Way Group is an opportunity for people to come together to discover guided balance in our lives through prayer (Evening Prayer and Compline)\, study (of the Bible/Gospels and the Rule)\, and community gathering. The group formed in 2007 and has met monthly with 9-12 members. We listen\, share\, and integrate aspects of the Benedictine monastic tradition into our daily lives to better live out the Gospel in today’s challenging world. \nJoin us on the fourth Sunday of every month in the Larson Fireside Room from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All are welcome!

This tradition started with Bishop Whipple many millennia ago (or so the myth goes). Come and see if you are the parishioner who will throw the stone the farthest this year. There will be three contestant categories: Men\, Women\, and Children (under the age of 12). \nAnd that’s not all! We are excited to announce that we will be serving homemade scones with coffee\, cider\, and hot chocolate. \nBut wait\, there’s more! The usual worship schedule of 8:30 and 10:30 am will be suspended on this day only\, returning to our normal schedule on February 4. \nAll members aged 16 and over are invited to vote on issues\, including our new vestry member slate and the acceptance of the 2024 budget. Children will be gathering in the Sunday school rooms for snacks\, games and fun! \nAll are not only invited – all are needed to attend this critical meeting as we move forward with our neighbors at the Mayo Clinic in their new expansion project\, take an honest look at our finances\, elect new vestry members\, celebrate those members who are retiring\, and celebrate our deep and rich people resources and leaders. \nCoffee and snacks will be provided\, and the vestry will stay following the service to answer questions and receive comments. DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm\nHoly Eucharist and Stripping of the Altar\n\n\n\n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe Thursday in Holy Week. It is part of the Triduum\, or three holy days before Easter. It comes from the Latin mandatum novum\, “new commandment\,” from Jn 13:34. The ceremony of washing feet was also referred to as “the Maundy.” Maundy Thursday celebrations also commemorate the institution of the eucharist by Jesus “on the night he was betrayed.” Egeria\, a fourth-century pilgrim to Jerusalem\, describes elaborate celebrations and observances in that city on Maundy Thursday. Special celebration of the institution of the eucharist on Maundy Thursday is attested by the Council of Hippo in 381. There is provision for the consecration of the bread and wine for administering Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament on Good Friday. DESCRIPTION:12:00 pm\nGood Friday liturgy \n  \n7:00 pm\nGood Friday liturgy \n  \n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe Friday before Easter Day\, on which the church commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is a day of fasting and special acts of discipline and self-denial. In the early church candidates for baptism\, joined by others\, fasted for a day or two before the Paschal feast. In the west the first of those days eventually acquired the character of historical reenactment of the passion and death of Christ. The liturgy of the day includes John’s account of the Passion gospel\, a solemn form of intercession known as the solemn collects (dating from ancient Rome)\, and optional devotions before the cross (commonly known as the veneration of the cross). The eucharist is not celebrated in the Episcopal Church on Good Friday\, but Holy Communion may be administered from the reserved sacrament at the Good Friday service.
