DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, July 13\, we will be experiencing some unusual downtown construction that will make things interesting!\n\nGetting to Calvary will present some challenges due to the construction. Please note that the Damon Ramp will be open and can be accessed by traveling south on 4th Avenue\, then turning left onto 1st Street\, followed by an immediate left onto 3rd Avenue\, and finally a left into the ramp. Please be aware that 3rd Avenue will be closed to the south of the ramp.\n\nWe will still be holding services at Calvary! Morning Prayer will be offered at both 8:30 am and 10:30 am\, thanks to our dedicated Morning Prayer leaders.\n\nAdditionally\, we have received a wonderful invitation to join the worship service at Christ Church in Old Frontenac\, the parish of the Rev. Paul Ehling. Christ Church\, located near Lake Pepin\, will be hosting Episcopal parishes from Red Wing\, Winona\, Lake City\, and Wabasha for their “All Churches Service” and has graciously extended this invitation to us as well. Many of you will remember Paul\, who was sponsored for ordination by Calvary and remains a cherished member of our community. Christ Church holds its summer worship services outdoors in their beautiful hillside amphitheater\, and the service will begin at 9:30 am. The drive to Old Frontenac is approximately one hour from Rochester.\n\nFollowing the service at Christ Church\, they will be hosting a potluck\, and  Calvary folks are invited to bring a dessert to share. Weather permitting\, Paul will also be leading a two-mile hike on the Prairie Trail at Frontenac State Park\, which is conveniently located near Christ Church. We hope you will consider these options for worship on July 13th.

DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, June 1\, is a parish meeting for all members age 16 and over at Calvary. Please join me in Crawford Hall at 9:15 am to hear about our newly established endowments\, vote on changes in our financial policy\, and vote on the new bylaws we have been working on since January. \nCalvary has been blessed over the past year with financial gifts that allow us to establish two endowment funds\, funds that will benefit Calvary for generations to come. Our finance team has been working very hard over the past couple of months to establish these funds and work on some changes to our financial policy. One fund will be called the Property Preservation Fund\, meant to benefit the integrity of our buildings and grounds. The second fund will be called the Bishop Whipple Calvary Mission Fund\, a general endowment for the mission of the parish. Both funds will be managed professionally and used when interest is generated. \nThe parish meeting will begin promptly at 9:15\, so grab some coffee and come upstairs for this important gathering. We are blessed at Calvary not only with these financial resources but also with the amazing people who are members – and the skills and talents of our finance team are beyond measure. John Winter\, Christie Atwell\, Darren Cooper\, Laurie Leaf\, Tom Abts\, Daniel Borup\, and our co-wardens\, Ellen Youngers and Jean Fox\, have joined together to create something exciting and lasting. DESCRIPTION:The Oasis Garden planting is a long-standing tradition at Calvary. Each spring\, parishioners of all ages gather to plant and mulch the hundreds of flowers that help make our churchyard a welcoming oasis for our congregation\, for Mayo patients and staff\, and for all in the community. SUMMARY:The Great Vigil of Easter
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm\nEaster Vigil and first Eucharist of Easter\n\n\n\n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe liturgy intended as the first (and arguably\, the primary) celebration of Easter in the BCP (pp. 284-95). It is also known as the Great Vigil. The service begins in darkness\, sometime between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter\, and consists of four parts: The Service of Light (kindling of new fire\, lighting the Paschal candle\, the Exsultet); The Service of Lessons (readings from the Hebrew Scriptures interspersed with psalms\, canticles\, and prayers); Christian Initiation (Holy Baptism) or the Renewal of Baptismal Vows; and the Eucharist. Through this liturgy\, the BCP recovers an ancient practice of keeping the Easter feast. Believers would gather in the hours of darkness ending at dawn on Easter to hear scripture and offer prayer. This night-long service of prayerful watching anticipated the baptisms that would come at first light and the Easter Eucharist. Easter was the primary baptismal occasion for the early church to the practical exclusion of all others. This practice linked the meanings of Christ’s dying and rising to the understanding of baptism.

The eucharist is not celebrated in the Episcopal Church on Good Friday\, but Holy Communion may be administered from the reserved sacrament at the Good Friday service.

DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm\nHoly Eucharist and Stripping of the Altar\n\n\n\n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe Thursday in Holy Week. It is part of the Triduum\, or three holy days before Easter. It comes from the Latin mandatum novum\, “new commandment\,” from Jn 13:34. The ceremony of washing feet was also referred to as “the Maundy.” Maundy Thursday celebrations also commemorate the institution of the eucharist by Jesus “on the night he was betrayed.” Egeria\, a fourth-century pilgrim to Jerusalem\, describes elaborate celebrations and observances in that city on Maundy Thursday. Special celebration of the institution of the eucharist on Maundy Thursday is attested by the Council of Hippo in 381. There is provision for the consecration of the bread and wine for administering Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament on Good Friday. Following this\, the altar is stripped and all decorative furnishings are removed from the church.

SUMMARY:Rooted: An Episcopal Discipleship Group with an Introduction to Eucharistic Visitor Training
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the Larson Fireside Room each Sunday at 9:15 AM for this small group study. The dates will be Sunday\, March 9th through Sunday\, April 13th. (Except for Sunday\, March 16) \nRooted is a course designed on our diocese’s Faith+Lead platform to help Minnesota Episcopalians learn more about the Christian faith and participate more fully in God’s life by engaging in daily spiritual practices. Our hope is that by the end of this course you will not only know more about God and the shape of the Christian life\, but also have a relationship with God\, and with a small group where you will receive and give encouragement\, support\, and accountability. \nIn addition to the Rooted curriculum\, we will be introducing aspects of our Eucharistic Visitor ministry. In addition to learning pastoral care skills\, this will be a great opportunity to learn about an important sacramental ministry to members of our church and to Episcopal hospital patients who come here from all over the world. \nRegistration is not required for this small group. It is something that anyone can participate in. You can attend just one session or all the sessions. Visitors to the church are welcome to attend. SUMMARY:Mardi Gras Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Calvary’s Fellowship Committee is hosting our first happy hour of 2025 on Friday\, February 28\, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Come and celebrate Mardi Gras with zest at Beetle’s Bar and Grill\, located 3 blocks west of St. Marys Hospital on 2nd St. SW. The first member to arrive and tell us what the acronym LTGTR stands for gets a free drink. If you wish\, wear your celebratory outfit. Stay as long as you can! Popcorn and water are free. You can purchase other food and drinks. Bring a friend!

DESCRIPTION:On February 2\, from 9:15 am to 10:15 am\, the Calvary Kids will be participating in a service project making tie blankets for Ronald McDonald House – families and teens\, please mark this date in your calendars now if you haven’t already! \nIf you would like to support this project\, we are still accepting donations of $16/blanket (please mark all donations “Tie Blanket Service Project”) or there are still blankets that need to be cut.
