SUMMARY:Adult Forum: Updates to Calvary Bylaws
DESCRIPTION:We will host a forum on January 19 after the 8:30 service in Crawford Hall to review proposed updates to Calvary’s bylaws. Our bylaws were last updated in 1991 and they are not aligned with the language and requirements in the current canons of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. Further\, the ECMN implemented a requirement in 2001 that parishes in the dioceses review and make any needed changes to their bylaws at least every ten years. Calvary is not in compliance with this requirement.\n\nAt the forum\, we will present a summary of the process to update Calvary’s bylaws (which began in 2021) and review the draft of the proposed bylaws that was approved by the vestry at their December meeting.\n\nFind links to Calvary’s current bylaws and the proposed new bylaws in The Visitor.

DESCRIPTION:We start the 2025 off with a bang – the No-Stress\, No-Rehearsal Epiphany Pageant! \nWhat does this mean? Well for those of you who dread having to drag your kids to yet another rehearsal\, this is the answer! Really\, there is no rehearsal. The kids just need to show up about 30 minutes before the pageant to collect their costumes and then follow the cues given in the script. There will be a live Baby Jesus\, many beautiful costumes\, and you really can’t miss seeing the camel! \nI do have a quick tip- especially for the little ones who might want to dress in sheep or cow costumes: make sure they have some cool clothes to wear underneath! DESCRIPTION:Our Calvary Motet Choir is joining with the Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church of Rochester to present Lessons and Carols on Sunday\, December 15. The first presentation will be at 10:15 am at First Presbyterian Church. The second presentation of the Lessons and Carols will be at Calvary at 4:00 pm. \nInterim Music Director Jeff Daehn and Presbyterian Director John Stender have been working closely to put together a meaningful variety of choral and instrumental music. Legend has it that ownership of Calvary’s corner lot rested on a bet made by George Head\, Rochester’s first mayor\, and Henry Benjamin Whipple\, Minnesota’s first Episcopal bishop: whoever threw a massive stone farthest would become the owner. Every year\, we celebrate Bishop Whipple’s historic win with a recreation of the event. Come and see if you are the parishioner who will win the stone throw this year. Many thanks to the Mueller family for organizing the Stone Throw.  \nAnd that’s not all! We are excited to announce that we will be serving homemade scones (probably just like the ones served to Mayor Head and Bishop Whipple) with coffee\, cider\, and hot chocolate. Then\, we will all be able to sample the delicious fruits of our pie bakers’ labors.  To enter\, just have your pie at Calvary by 10 am the day of the picnic with your name on the bottom of your pie plate. We are going to judge the pies starting at 10 am to give our panel of celebrity judges time to finish before the 10:30 service\, so please don’t be late. The rules are simple. SUMMARY:Blessing of Backpacks and Briefcases
DESCRIPTION:School is starting in late August and Calvary will be entering a new and exciting program year.  At both the 8:30 am and 10:30 am services on Sunday\, August 25\, we will be blessing our children as they head back to school\, and blessing their backpacks as symbols of their work.  We will also be blessing the briefcases and all other symbols of the work of adults – cell phones\, iPads\, knitting needles\, gardening\, carpentry\, and cooking tools – please bring any symbols of your work\, and your children and their backpacks\, to church on August 25 so that we can send one another out into the world to do the work God has given us to do with the blessing of this beloved community\, and the assurance of God’s presence\, for the months ahead.
