DESCRIPTION:This is one of two services each Sunday: at 8:30 am\, on the first and third Sundays of every month\, Calvary offers A Service of Morning Prayer. This beautiful\, ancient service consists of prayers\, canticles\, and scripture readings and is the traditional way of greeting the day in our Episcopal tradition. It is about 30 minutes long\, and readers will be invited out of the gathered congregation by the lay leaders. \nThe nursery\, staffed by two adults each Sunday who are vaccinated\, boosted\, and Safeguarding God’s Children trained\, will be available 8:30 am – 11:15 am.

They will be served with tortillas and salsa\, Spanish rice\, and cherry cheesecake.  \nWe will be decorating the Christmas tree in Brackenridge Hall and hanging fresh greens in the sanctuary. Legend has it that ownership of Calvary’s corner lot rested on a bet made by George Head\, Rochester’s first mayor\, and Henry Benjamin Whipple\, Minnesota’s first Episcopal bishop: whoever threw a massive stone farthest would become the owner. Every year\, we celebrate Bishop Whipple’s historic win with a recreation of the event. Come and see if you are the parishioner who will win the stone throw this year. Many thanks to the Mueller family for organizing the Stone Throw.  \nAnd that’s not all! We are excited to announce that we will be serving homemade scones (probably just like the ones served to Mayor Head and Bishop Whipple) with coffee\, cider\, and hot chocolate. All homemade pies baked by Calvary parishioners are welcome. The Greatest 2024 Pie Baker at Calvary will be crowned in the courtyard following the picnic! Then\, we will all be able to sample the delicious fruits of our pie bakers’ labors.  To enter\, just have your pie at Calvary by 10 am the day of the picnic with your name on the bottom of your pie plate. We are going to judge the pies starting at 10 am to give our panel of celebrity judges time to finish before the 10:30 service\, so please don’t be late. The rules are simple. Your pie must be homemade by you. There is no age limit for our bakers! We welcome all pies! Let the baking begin!

DESCRIPTION:School is starting in late August and Calvary will be entering a new and exciting program year.  At both the 8:30 am and 10:30 am services on Sunday\, August 25\, we will be blessing our children as they head back to school\, and blessing their backpacks as symbols of their work.  We will also be blessing the briefcases and all other symbols of the work of adults – cell phones\, iPads\, knitting needles\, gardening\, carpentry\, and cooking tools – please bring any symbols of your work\, and your children and their backpacks\, to church on August 25 so that we can send one another out into the world to do the work God has given us to do with the blessing of this beloved community\, and the assurance of God’s presence\, for the months ahead.

DESCRIPTION:What came after Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances to his disciples? What happened to those disciples\, and how did we evolve from a small band of Jews following Jesus to being called Christians? You are invited to a study of the Acts of the Apostles – a book of the Bible that we read in worship throughout the Great Fifty Days of Easter\, but don’t really spend much time with. As St. Luke’s “second chapter” after his gospel account of Jesus’ life\, the story of the Acts of the Apostles is the natural study to follow our study of the Gospel according to Luke that we did last fall. Bishop Loya has invited all of us in the Episcopal Church in Minnesota to study Acts during this Eastertide.\n\nWe will begin on Monday\, April 15\, and meet together\, all on Zoom\, every Monday through May 20 from 6:30pm to 7:45-ish.  Two resources are recommended: Acts (Interpretation Bible Studies)\, by Charles C. Williamson and Acts from Scratch\, by Donald L. Griggs and Paul W. Waleskey. We will also use our Bibles!\n\nIf you are interested in this study\, please email Rev. DESCRIPTION:The Oasis Garden planting is a long-standing tradition at Calvary. Each spring\, parishioners of all ages gather to plant and mulch the hundreds of flowers that help make our churchyard a welcoming oasis for our congregation\, for Mayo patients & staff\, and for all in the community.\n\nThis year\, we’ll plant from 9:00 am to noon on Saturday\, May 18. No gardening skill is necessary\, and the needed tools will be available.  Plant a few flowers or spend the whole morning – all contributions of your time are welcome.\n\nQuestions?
