SUMMARY:Benedictine Way
DESCRIPTION:While living in Rome during troubled times in the 6th century\, Benedict of Nursia wrote a Rule for community living. He sought peace\, meaning and purpose for his life. Others joined him and ultimately he founded 12 monastic communities. Benedictine spirituality flows from three vows: stability\, obedience\, and conversion of life\, all grounded in the Bible/Gospels\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, personal prayer\, and community living. \nBenedictine spirituality has been a part of Anglican/Episcopal liturgies for centuries. St. Augustine\, the first Archbishop of Canterbury\, was a Benedictine monk. Thomas Cranmer\, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1533\, incorporated the divine office (morning prayer\, evening prayer and compline along with the Psalms) into the Book of Common Prayer\, following the influence of Augustine. \nThe Benedictine Way Group is an opportunity for people to come together to discover guided balance in our lives through prayer (Evening Prayer and Compline)\, study (of the Bible/Gospels and the Rule)\, and community gathering. The group formed in 2007 and has met monthly with 9-12 members. We listen\, share\, and integrate aspects of the Benedictine monastic tradition into our daily lives to better live out the Gospel in today’s challenging world. \nJoin us on the fourth Sunday of every month in the Larson Fireside Room from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All are welcome!

DESCRIPTION:(aka Eat\, Compete\, and Dress Up) \nFall is in the air\, and it is time for Calvary’s annual Stone Throw. This tradition started with Bishop Whipple many millennia ago (or so the myth goes). Come and see if you are the parishioner who will throw the stone the farthest this year. There will be three contestant categories: Men\, Women\, and Children (under the age of 12). \nAnd that’s not all! We are excited to announce that we will be serving homemade scones with coffee\, cider\, and hot chocolate. \nBut wait\, there’s more! It is the Sunday before Halloween\, so we encourage you to wear your Halloween costume to eat\, compete\, and of course attend the 8:30 or 10:30 service. \nMany thanks to the Mueller family for organizing the Stone Throw. Elephants\, horses\, sloths\, parakeets and every bird\, hissing cockroaches\, tarantulas\, and every insect of every kind. God has made all of creation\, and given it into our care. So\, humans are invited too! \nPlease bring your pets (and pictures of shy pets and pets who have died)\, to the Oasis Garden on Sunday\, October 8 at 4:00 pm for their blessing. All of our collection at that service will be designated to Paws and Claws. This is a great service to bring your neighbors and friends – come let us celebrate God’s Beloved Community!
