SUMMARY:Adult Formation: Orders of Ministry - The Priesthood
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, March 20\, the next in the series of the spiritual and the temporal will examine the priestly order of ministry. “Called by God and the Church to provide spiritual nourishment in thought\, word\, and deed for God’s people\, priests work with the Bishop and are ministry cultivators who inspire people in Word and Sacrament…” \nThis week’s speakers are the Rev. Chris Beebe and the Venerable Ben Scott. Chris is a transplanted southerner who has served parishes in Arkansas\, North Carolina\, and Minnesota. A former paralegal and second career priest\, Chris recently retired as rector of St. John’s\, Mankato\, and lives in Bloomington. She is the new chair of the ECMN Standing Committee. \nBen is well known at Calvary\, where he grew up\, being baptized\, confirmed\, and active and from where he was sent to ordination to the diaconate and priesthood. Ben served in parish ministry in Minnesota\, as the principal in a K-8 parish school in New York City\, and as archdeacon in Southern Minnesota. He and his wife Sally live near Rock Dell. \nAll are invited to bring a cup of coffee into the church at 10:00am and learn more about these two priests.  Bring your questions!

DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday through April 3\, we will gather from 10am – 10:50am inside the Church (you may bring in your coffee!) to learn about the Orders of Ministry and how all ministry orders work together to discern decisions and directions in The Episcopal Church. \nIn this continuing Sunday morning Lenten series\, we welcome the Venerable Chip Whitacre as our speaker. Chip was recently appointed by Bishop Loya as Archdeacon for the east metro and southeast mission areas of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota\, including Rochester. Chip was ordained deacon in The Episcopal Church in 2013 and has served parishes\, the wider diocese\, and the community in many ways since then. All are welcome to learn from Chip about the Order of the Diaconate in The Episcopal Church.  In many if not most cases\, God calls people to the diaconate out of their immediate faith community\, and with the support of that community.  Chip will be our preacher at all services this Sunday as well as leading our Forum at 10:00am. We welcome Chip and his wife Lynne to Calvary. \nBring your questions and open hearts and curiosity about how God might be calling you.

DESCRIPTION:We begin Lent at Calvary with a Quiet Day on Saturday\, March 5\, with the theme of peace and a chance to explore through prayer\, scripture study and response\, journaling\, and discussion\, where our hearts are and where we hear God speaking to us and calling us to be people of peace. \nThe day begins at 9:00am in the Church\, and will continue until noon. DESCRIPTION:Our 4:00pm service is designed to be especially meaningful to children. Please remember to wear a mask to this beautiful and moving service of Holy Eucharist\, and be sure to join us following the service for Christmas caroling in the courtyard at 5:30pm! \nThis year\, we will have a very special Christmas pageant for all children to take part in. We do encourage this for fully vaccinated children\, but all children will be masked\, and all are welcome. Children should come dressed as one of the characters in the traditional story of the birth of Jesus: Mary\, Joseph\, the innkeeper\, shepherds\, sheep or other animals\, angels\, the guiding star\, and wise people.  The costumes that belong to Calvary will be available on Sunday\, December 19\, and all of the following week in Brackenridge Hall for those who want to use them\, but children can also put together a costume from their home resources.  Children will come ready to be in the pageant and sit with their parents. \nRev. Beth will tell the Christmas story and when she mentions certain characters\, those children will be invited to stand where they are – in the pews\, ON the pews\, whatever works best for them! This year’s Christmas pageant will be a welcome time of joy and noise and fun for all.

The group has been been playing Jazz in Southeastern Minn. for decades\, has recorded an album of original music called Trombots and Mermaids\, and has participated in the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. \n\nJoin us Tuesdays this summer from 12 pm to 1 pm for good friends\, great music\, and relaxing times during our 2021 season in the Oasis Garden at Calvary Episcopal Church! \n
