DESCRIPTION:12:00 pm\nGood Friday liturgy \n7:00 pm\nGood Friday liturgy \n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe Friday before Easter Day\, on which the church commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is a day of fasting and special acts of discipline and self-denial. In the early church\, candidates for baptism\, joined by others\, fasted for a day or two before the Paschal feast. In the west the first of those days eventually acquired the character of historical reenactment of the passion and death of Christ. The liturgy of the day includes John’s account of the Passion gospel\, a solemn form of intercession known as the solemn collects (dating from ancient Rome)\, and optional devotions before the cross (commonly known as the veneration of the cross). The eucharist is not celebrated in the Episcopal Church on Good Friday\, but Holy Communion may be administered from the reserved sacrament at the Good Friday service.

DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm\nHoly Eucharist and Stripping of the Altar\n\n\n\n\nAdapted from An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church:\nThe Thursday in Holy Week. It is part of the Triduum\, or three holy days before Easter. It comes from the Latin mandatum novum\, “new commandment\,” from Jn 13:34. The ceremony of washing feet was also referred to as “the Maundy.” Maundy Thursday celebrations also commemorate the institution of the eucharist by Jesus “on the night he was betrayed.” Egeria\, a fourth-century pilgrim to Jerusalem\, describes elaborate celebrations and observances in that city on Maundy Thursday. Special celebration of the institution of the eucharist on Maundy Thursday is attested by the Council of Hippo in 381. There is provision for the consecration of the bread and wine for administering Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament on Good Friday. Following this\, the altar is stripped and all decorative furnishings are removed from the church.

SUMMARY:Rooted: An Episcopal Discipleship Group with an Introduction to Eucharistic Visitor Training
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the Larson Fireside Room each Sunday at 9:15 AM for this small group study. The dates will be Sunday\, March 9th through Sunday\, April 13th. (Except for Sunday\, March 16) \nRooted is a course designed on our diocese’s Faith+Lead platform to help Minnesota Episcopalians learn more about the Christian faith and participate more fully in God’s life by engaging in daily spiritual practices. Our hope is that by the end of this course you will not only know more about God and the shape of the Christian life\, but also have a relationship with God\, and with a small group where you will receive and give encouragement\, support\, and accountability. \nIn addition to the Rooted curriculum\, we will be introducing aspects of our Eucharistic Visitor ministry. In addition to learning pastoral care skills\, this will be a great opportunity to learn about an important sacramental ministry to members of our church and to Episcopal hospital patients who come here from all over the world. \nRegistration is not required for this small group. It is something that anyone can participate in. You can attend just one session or all the sessions. Visitors to the church are welcome to attend. For those that do desire to take a deeper dive in the Rooted program or for those who want to express interest in becoming a Eucharistic Visitor\, please send an email to Rev. SUMMARY:Adult Forum: Updates to Calvary Bylaws
DESCRIPTION:We will host a forum on January 19 after the 8:30 service in Crawford Hall to review proposed updates to Calvary’s bylaws. Our bylaws were last updated in 1991 and they are not aligned with the language and requirements in the current canons of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. Further\, the ECMN implemented a requirement in 2001 that parishes in the dioceses review and make any needed changes to their bylaws at least every ten years. Calvary is not in compliance with this requirement.\n\nAt the forum\, we will present a summary of the process to update Calvary’s bylaws (which began in 2021) and review the draft of the proposed bylaws that was approved by the vestry at their December meeting.\n\nFind links to Calvary’s current bylaws and the proposed new bylaws in The Visitor.

DESCRIPTION:We start the 2025 off with a bang – the No-Stress\, No-Rehearsal Epiphany Pageant! \nWhat does this mean? Well for those of you who dread having to drag your kids to yet another rehearsal\, this is the answer! Really\, there is no rehearsal. The kids just need to show up about 30 minutes before the pageant to collect their costumes and then follow the cues given in the script. There will be a live Baby Jesus\, many beautiful costumes\, and you really can’t miss seeing the camel! \nI do have a quick tip- especially for the little ones who might want to dress in sheep or cow costumes: make sure they have some cool clothes to wear underneath! Legend has it that ownership of Calvary’s corner lot rested on a bet made by George Head\, Rochester’s first mayor\, and Henry Benjamin Whipple\, Minnesota’s first Episcopal bishop: whoever threw a massive stone farthest would become the owner. Every year\, we celebrate Bishop Whipple’s historic win with a recreation of the event. Come and see if you are the parishioner who will win the stone throw this year. DESCRIPTION:We welcome the Very Reverend Cindi Brickson\, dean of the southern region of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota\, as our preacher and forum speaker on Sunday\, October 13. Rev. Brickson was most recently our guest along with Bishop Loya on Holy Cross Sunday\, and she is a good friend of Calvary. She will preach at both services and facilitate a forum in Crawford Hall between the two worship services\, where she will update us on the plans for the diocesan convention in November and other items of interest from the bishop’s office\, including news of what is happening in the southeast region of our diocese.
