We are in a transformational moment in our nation’s history. Protests over the murder of George Floyd have expanded from police practices to broad issues of systemic racism and social justice. The recent protests and calls for change have moral, political, and spiritual dimensions. Like other Episcopal churches throughout the country, Calvary clergy, staff, lay leaders, and parishioners are anxious to explore these issues as we walk and witness to the way of love in our community.
Starting in August 2020, the Adult Faith Formation Team (AFFT) will be inviting you to join us in an intergenerational series of Calvary Conversations: StorySharing. Coming together in small groups via Zoom, we will have Calvary parishioners share their stories about race, identity, difference, and discrimination. StorySharing is about engagement – the offering and receiving of one’s most precious and holy gift, a personal story. StorySharing opens the way for authentic conversation through a spiritual lens creating community, connection, and deep-rooted relationships.
The AFFT has also collected a resource list of articles, books, movies, short films, and podcasts for both adults and children/youth on issues of racial and social justice. This is not a comprehensive list but a starting point for you and your family to explore together and learn from.
